- Description
ESA's astronomical satellite, the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO), was launched in November 1995. This video index contains graphic sequences to illustrate the mechanism of the ISOCAM apparatus, and images of Jupiter recorded by ISO.

03:36:00:00 Jupiter as seen by ISO: (00:03:42:00 and 00:04:20:00) plainest at short infrared wavelengths are Jupiter's cloud zones and a bright blob for the famous Great Red Spot. (00:03:50:00 and 00:04:28:00) A blackout occurs where methane in Jupiter's atmosphere absorbs the infrared. (00:03:54:00 and 00:04:32:00) each image gives experts new information about the planet. Jupiter's appearance changes dramatically at longer wavelengths, where ISO (00:04:01:00 and 00:04:39:00) looks into big regions free of clouds, seeing deep into the atmosphere. In emission from a much higher altitude, from Jupiter's stratosphere, (00:04:10:00 and 00:04:48:00) the south pole gleams.
(00:04:16:00 and 00:04:54:00) The picture changes again, and previously dark zones report their weather to ISO's infrared eye.
