A joint ESA-NASA project, Hubble has enabled us to look further back into the history of our universe than ever before. It has shown us the birth and death of stars, images of nebulae where stars are formed, galaxies with dark holes at their core and cold molecules emitting in the faraway infra red wavelength.

Launched in 1990, Hubble has now been in orbit for almost twelve years. During that time it has travelled over 1.5 billion km and made over 330,000 separate observations.

But alongside the dramatic insights it offers astonomers, Hubble is unique in another way: it is a telescope which will never grow old. Hubble was specifically designed to be updated and rejuvenated throughout its twenty-year life span.
