- Description
In the course of the next few weeks, a series of meetings of the European UnionÕs Council will decide on the proposed European satellite navigation system, Galileo.
This programme provides an overview of Galileo and explains some current technology development for Galileo, notably its ultra-precise clocks. Soundbites by experts and European MP Savary underscore the need for a European system to complement the US-American GPS.
The 6-minute A-roll contains split audio with an English guide track and is complemented by a B-roll with international sound only00:03
The voice is already well known by some motorists. But in the coming years satellite navigation will gain more and more importance in our daily life and will actually become a utility like water, electricity or the telephone. Today, European citizens are fully dependent on the Global Positioning System, GPS. GPS is a U.S.-American System developed by the US Air Force for military purposes and put at the disposal of everybody, Nevertheless, the US Authorities have full control over this technology and in case of a crisis, for example, Washington is able to make the signal unusuable.
