How will the weather be tomorrow? Thanks to daily weather forecasts, we can almost be sure about tomorrow's weather. We usually know if it will be rain or shine, warm or cold, calm or windy.
The last few years have seen a sharp increase in weather reporting. Newspapers, radio and, in particular, television are now providing the public with more regular detailed weather forecasts,
Weather presenters in Europe and Africa use the images from the European Meteosat weather satellites, which scan the Earth from space and transmit one full Earth disk image every half hour. We have become used to seeing Europe from above, with clouds and storms shown in a time lapse sequence of real images.
But Meteosat has, during nearly 25 years of uninterrupted service, accounted to a much higher benefit. Ten years ago, a survey by the University of Manchester proved a One Billion-Euro benefit for the European nations per year thanks to advanced weather prediction.
