- Description
On march 2004, the Rosetta probe lifted off en route to comet Churyumov/Gerasimenko, for a two year long investigation of a periodic comet as its orbit will again approach the Sun in 2014-2016. This transmission outlines our current knowledge of comets and how Rosetta will eventually help improving it, after its decade-long journey through interplanetary space. Comets carry a lot of information about the origin of the solar system and are therefore particularly intersting for astronomers. The Euroepan Space Agency already did a very succesful comet mission, the satellite Giotto that arrived at a distance of 600 kilometers from the comet and shot beautiful images of its nucleous. However, Rosetta will provide much more information to scientists since it will remain near the comet for two years. The programme comprises of a 5 minute A-roll with split track and commentary; it complemented by a B-roll with clean international sound.
