      10:00:40 The cosmic collision surpassed all expectations... As the Deep Impact flyby spacecraft looked back towards the receding comet, the mission team and astronomers the world over were lost for words.
      10:0054 Just six months after leaving Earth, NASA's Deep Impact, rendezvous'd with comet Tempel-1 with infinite precision. It was 5:52 GMT and 24 seconds when the 370 kg impactor was run down by the comet. A 37,000 km/hour crash.
      10:01:11 The barrell-sized spacecraft filmed its own demise, taking pictures of the oncoming comet until 3 seconds before the impact. Images revealing the cratered, and ñ intriguingly ñ in some places, smooth surface.
      10:01:30 Within seconds, the engineers and scientists gathered at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, received confirmation that their spacecraft had been vaporised. A bull's eye success!
      10:01:48 And moments later, the flyby spacecraft showed the effects of the impact, a plume of
