16.12.05 A roll script: The launch of a small satellite from the Kazakhstan desert will mark the beginning of Europeís civil navigation capabilities in space. Called Giove, it will act as a trail blazer for a new global positioning system known as Galileo.
This system is being jointly developed between the European Space Agency and the EU.

Developed and built in under 3 years by Surrey Satellite Technologies in the UK, Giove has been fully tested by the European Space Agency against the rigours of space and is now sitting on top of a Russian Soyuz-Fregat launcher at Baikonur.
