      On Tuesday 2 May 2006, the German Chancellor Andrea Merkel will participate at a ceremony in Bremen (Germnay) to mark the completion of the Columbus Laboratory, Europe's major contriobution to the International Space Station.
      As pre-event footage for this story, the ESA TV Service transmits an ISS Update with a concise and topical overview of this project, and the upcoming ISS missions with European participation.

      For over five years now, astronauts from around the world have been living and working together 400 kilometers above Earth, onboard the biggest outpost ever built in space. It is one of the largest research projects ever and involves Europe, the United States, Russia, Japan and Canada. It is the International Space Station, also known as the ISS.
