On 7 December, Swedish ESA astronaut Christer Fuglesang is scheduled to become the next European to visit the ISS.
With the Shuttle resuming regular flights, the ISS assembly is gainig pace again, and this Exchange is looking at its prospects at the eve of the next Shuttle mission.

The International Space Station is bracing itself for an intense period of activity which will soon see a rapid transformation towards a 1200 cubic metre research laboratory 400 kilometres above the Earth. Over the next year, Europe will play a key role in the ISS assembly.

10h00í37íí ESA, along with the United States, Russia, Japan and Canada, has been involved in the worldís largest research project since the outset. Thousands of Europeans have helped in the construction of the ISS and the European Space Agency has sent seven astronauts there to help with the assembly and conduct scientific research.
