In Heraklion, Crete, an area of heavy seismic activity, a first aid operation is simulated during an earthquake readiness exercise as part of the Satellite for Health Early warning and Epidemiology project. This project is funded by the European Space Agency in preparation for a programme dedicated to telemedicine. The aim is to test a satellite communication system, the only technology that would remain fully operational in the event of a natural disaster.
