      Cooperation in Space between India and Europe

      Planned on 22 October the Chandrayaan mission, the first Indian mission to the moon shows the ambitions and expertise of India in Space.
      Europe is contributing to this venture and in fact India and Europe have been working together in space for more than 25 years. It started with the early Ariane launches.
      This story recalls this fruitful cooperation with images from archive but also recent filming in India. Also included interviews of different actors of this cooperation at ISRO, the Indian Space Research Organisation and ESA .

      India ñ Europe cooperation

      The first cooperative venture between India and Europe took place in Kourou back in 1981 with the Ariane 3 launch of Apple: Indiaís first geostationary satellite ñ an experimental telecommunications spacecraft.
      At the Indian Space Agency museum in Bangalore, Apple takes pride of place.
      India then went on to develop a number of telecommunication satellites: the INSAT satellite family which was also designed for weather forecasting and earth observation.
      In total, Ariane in its different versions has launched no fewer than 13 INSAT satellites.
