- Description
This animation comprises 24 montages based on images acquired by the navigation camera on ESA’s Rosetta spacecraft orbiting Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko between 19 November and 3 December 2014.
Each montage comprises four individual images taken over a 20-minute period, either around 11:00 GMT (12:00 CET) or 23:00 GMT (0:00 Next Day CET). The montages are shown in reverse chronological order, starting from the four images taken on 2 December, then showing those from the previous day, and so on, until the second-last montage in the sequence, which comprises images taken on 19 November; the last montage is from 3 December.
During this period, Rosetta completed an almost full revolution at 30 km from the comet. These images were selected in such a way that their sequence appears to be continuous, a combined effect of Rosetta's motion with respect to the comet and the comet’s own rotation (every 12.4 hours).
More information and all the individual images making up the 24 montages are available via the Rosetta blog.
