- Description
The three-day first ever Earth Observation Science 2.0 conference took place at ESA’s centre for Earth Observation in Frascati, Italy, on 12–14 October.
The way that Earth observation data are used is changing rapidly, driven by the availability of open data and by today’s advances in digital technologies.
Organised to explore the emerging challenges and opportunities that EO data has created, the conference focused on various topics. Open tools and software, data-intensive science, virtual research environment, citizen science and crowdsourcing, advanced visualisation, e-learning and education of the new generation of data scientists, are just a few of the subject areas covered.
The objective was to gather feedback on new trends and practices by next generation scientists. It provided an international forum for scientists to present activities relevant to Earth observation open science themes, and to formulate community recommendations.
