Florence Rabier, Director General at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts and also the Chair of ESA’s Advisory Committee for Earth Observation, talks about scientific excellence of the Earth Explorer research missions developed within the FutureEO programme. These missions are instrumental in our understanding of the physical processes at play in the Earth system. She also highlights how technological excellence helps to develop operational applications in partnership with other organisations such as ECMWF. She notes that the world needs ESA’s excellence more than ever.
