- Description
Humans are planning to venture farther into space for longer periods of time placing astronauts in extreme conditions. ESA’s Angelique Van Ombergen highlights how ESA is supporting astronauts through research and developing new technologies that will keep astronauts healthy and functioning well in extreme environments. ESA’s SciSpacE team is conducting research on ground and in space that has direct benefits to people on Earth.
Angelique Van Ombergen graduated with a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, in 2017. She continued her research on spaceflight-induced brain changes during her postdoctoral studies and is currently a visiting professor at the university. She joined the European Space Agency in 2019 and works as for life sciences at ESA’s human and robotic exploration, overseeing biology and health research activities. She is an avid science communicator and is the author of several books, including three non-fiction children's books that have been translated in several languages.
Space Bites is a series of lectures about space exploration to increase awareness of space exploration. A fresh and catchy format, in-depth content but without the academic look and feel, the talks have no slides of text but just the speaker presenting the exciting future steps of space exploration.
