    • Description

An animated collection of video images and X-MM B-roll for the ESA Press Conference on 06 October 2000 to announce the latest results from the XMM-Newton satellite.
The images of the new XMM science results:
       - Temperature Distribution in galaxy clusters
       - Element Distribution in a supanova
       - Shape and energy distribution of large eliptical galaxies

00:02:36 XMM Newton observed 3 clusters of galaxies, about 1 mio light years across. The 3 images of galaxies, about 1 mio light years across. THe 3 images show the lumnosity distribution across the cluster. For all 3 it shows a steep decrease near the edge,. The traditional models of the distributuion and flow gases in clusters of hot galaxies cannot explain this observation. (Images courtesy T.Tamura, SRON,NL)
00:03:38 The XMM-Newton observation of the Sersic 159-03 cluster of galaxies is presented differently in the following image. The contour lines map the intesity distribution of the intra cluster gas, with the temperature increasing towards the centre. The XMM-Newton Image is superimposed on an optical view of the corresponding region of the sky (Image Courtesy of J. Kaastra, SRON,NL)
00:04:26 XMM-Newton observed the supernove remnant N132D, one of the brighter x-ray sources in the sky. The study of the relative abundences of highly ionised atoms in the different re
