Young space fans are in for a treat with the launch of the latest Geronimo Stilton book, Viaggio Nello Spazio, created in collaboration with ESA.

Geronimo Stilton is the much-beloved mouse hero and author of a series of Italian children’s books created by Elisabetta Dami. Thanks to a collaboration between Italian publisher Edizioni Piemme, the European Space Agency, and ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, a new Geronimo Stilton book launched on 29 October 2024: Viaggio Nello Spazio.

The character Sammy Toporetti is based on ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, the first Italian woman in space.

In this exciting new adventure, Geronimo Stilton embarks on the most incredible journey of his life – blasting off to the International Space Station with his sister, Thea! But before they can start their space mission, Geronimo and Thea must pass the tough selection process to become astronauts. That means months of training with the space experts at EAC – ESA’s European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany.

Viaggio Nello Spazio is certain to delight young readers with its mix of humour, adventure, and educational discovery. As Geronimo’s story unfolds, readers discover fascinating facts about space, learn how to become an ESA astronaut, and find out what life aboard the International Space Station is really like.

Astronaut fans will quickly spot that Geronimo’s astronaut friend Sammy Toporetti is inspired by real-life ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti. Sammy displays the same passion for discovery that makes Samantha such an inspiring role model for young people.

Elisabetta Dami, author of the Geronimo Stilton series, joined Anna Jacobs from ESA and some very special guests to launch Viaggio Nello Spazio at a BookCity event in Milan’s Science and Technology Museum.

To complete the space experience, Viaggio Nello Spazio features an educational appendix packed with space facts and photos of ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti. There are also some fantastic space-themed stickers, including a Geronimo Stilton astronaut patch sticker.

Viaggio Nello Spazio is the perfect gift for young space fans aged 6 to 9 years. It’s also a great way for elementary school teachers to explore the topic of space in an engaging way with their classes. You can find Viaggio Nello Spazio in bookstores and online now.
