ERS-1 image of the Cologne / Rhine (Germany) - Floods in December 1993.This scene comprises of an image recorded on 11 May 1993 by the US Landsat-TM (thematic mapper) superimposed geometrically onto an ERS-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image acquired during the December 1993 flood. In this scene (48x48 km), dark colours indicate the flooded areas, and the very bright spots are mainly industrial plants. The granular light-blue tone indicates residential areas while woods are represented in light brown. The image of the Rhine/Cologne area was processed by ESRIN (Frascati) and Eurimage (Rome).
