This ASAR image was obtained over the Netherlands with a 25-metre resolution and shows an area 100 km wide.
One of the key aims of the ASAR instrument is to expand the range of modes offered by the ERS satellite. ASAR will be able to select one of seven possible incidence angles, ranging from 15 to 45 degrees.
This image was taken using a much shallower incidence angle (33 degrees) compared to the fixed angle of 23 degrees used by ERS. This increased range of observation angles makes it possible to highlight different features both on land and over the oceans.
