This multitemporal colour composite radar image is centred over Riga (large bright area), the capital of Latvia, it is also the cultural and industrial centre and the major seaport on the River Daugava . The image shows that Latvia consists for the most part of a low-lying plain with some moderate elevations in the east. The landscape includes numerous lakes, streams, marshes, and peat bogs. The Daugava is the principal river, which rises in Russia and empties into the Gulf of Riga, where ice can be detected as dark green patches. The bottom portion of the image shows the northern region of Lithuania. The image is made of three ASAR Wide Swath radar images acquired on different dates and assigning a colour ( RGB ) to each date ( Red : 27 November 2002, Green : 16 April 2003, Blue : 5 February 2003).
