This Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) image was acquired over the province of Guangdong, located in southeastern China by the South China Sea. From the image it is noticeable that the terrain consists mainly of hills.
At the centre of the image is the city of Guangzhou, also known as Canton (brown area) and the Zhu or Pearl River, an important regional waterway that flows from the city of Guangzhou to the South China Sea and provides a fertile delta for crop cultivation.
To the right of the delta are the cites of Shenzen (north) and Hong Kong (south). To the left of the delta is the city of Macau. The brownish and green colours in the sea indicate shallow waters and increased sedimentation.
