This image, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, shows a section of the Ophir Chasma, a northern part of the Valles Marineris canyon.
This close-up perspective view was calculated from the digital terrain model derived from the stereo channels. It shows a view looking north towards the 5000-metre high northern scarp with its piles of collapsed material, seen at the top of the image.
The smooth, rounded Baetis Mensa ridge can be seen on the left.
