An interferometric image of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug region in Arctic Northwest Russia generated by SAR data acquired by ESA's Envisat and ERS-2 satellites, during their last 2010 tandem mission.
The InSAR coherence is high for much of the area. Low coherence is found for open water (ocean, tundra lakes, rivers) and for forest. Furthermore, the coherence is also low in areas with quite steep slopes which are also present in the southern part of the area.
The coherence can be used to characterise the land cover. Over land, the coherence relates to the vegetation density.
