When the Danube River Basin flooded in July 2010, the GMES emergency management service, SAFER, immediately provided flood extent maps based on satellite data to civil protection authorities. In this image created using data from the US Landsat-7 and Canadian Radarsat-2 missions, the dark blue represents the water extent on 5 June 2000, while the lighter blue shows water extent on 3 July 2010 in Romania’s Galati/Braila region.
