Analysing blood samples

Developed within ESA’s ARTES Integrated Applications Promotions programme, B-LiFE is a mobile diagnostic facility for speeding up diagnoses of pathogens in humanitarian and medical emergencies.

B-LiFE, the biological light fieldable laboratory for emergencies, includes a tent that is easy to set up, specialised equipment to inactivate and analyse biological samples, and an inflatable satellite antenna.

Samples of blood were made safe inside a dedicated negative-pressure glovebox by the operating team working inside the B-LiFE mobile medical laboratory. Samples were then processed for rapid diagnosis of pathogenic agent.
