The first radar images taken from an aircraft during the AfriSAR campaign depict Gabon’s tropical forest in light green. Non-forested and urban areas appear dark green and pink. Rivers and the ocean are also clearly visible. The AfriSAR campaign supports the development of the Biomass mission that will provide measurements of forest biomass and forest height. This information will help us understand the state of our forests and how they are changing, and advance our knowledge of the carbon cycle.
