A 10-year average of sulphur dioxide concentrations over Europe based on data from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) on NASA’s Aura satellite. While Western Europe appears relatively free from this air pollutant, there are emissions clearly visible over Eastern Europe from power plants. The map also shows emissions of sulphur dioxide over Sicily, Italy, which was down to volcanic eruptions from Mount Etna. (Concentrations below 0.1 DU are not plotted).
