An aerosol forecast from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) on 23 April 2024 shows a thick plume of Saharan dust blowing off the desert towards Libya, the Mediterranean Sea and Greece.
These forecasts are produced every 12 hours and are used to assess the concentration of atmospheric particulate matter, as well as modelling its transport and dispersion. Public authorities can use these forecasts to take steps to mitigate the effects of dust on the public health.
