Wildfire season has arrived in full force in Canada, prompting evacuation orders and alerts in several towns in British Columbia and Alberta due to the danger of uncontrolled blazes. According to ESA’s World Fire Atlas, there were 258 fires detected in Canada in 2024 alone (data up to 13 May).
Depending on their size, individual fires can be identified as multiple pixels by ESA’s World Fire Atlas, potentially resulting in a higher number of detected fires compared to other agencies.
