The ‘Third Swarm Science Meeting’ was held at the IDA Conference Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 19–20 June 2014.
The opening session began with a welcome address by Sofie Carsten Nielsen, Danish Minister of Higher Education and Science (02:00), followed by an overview of ESA’s Earth observation activities and the Swarm mission by the Director of ESA’s Earth Observation Programmes, Volker Liebig (12:15).
Anders Overgaard Bjarklev, President of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), addressed the role of Denmark and DTU Space as technical and scientific leaders in the Swarm mission (20:55). Prof. Andrew Jackson from ETH Zurich provided an overview of Earth’s magnetic field (28:40), followed by an update by ESA’s Roger Haagmans (49:15) and Rune Floberghagen (58:40) on the status of the mission.
The first scientific results and early applications from the first six months of Swarm data were presented by Nils Olsen from DTU Space (01:09:30) and Claudia Stolle from the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences (01:40:09)
