MTG Lightning Imager

Paul Blythe, MTG Programme Manager at ESA, talks about the importance of lightning detectors on meteorological satellites and how the Lightning Imager mounted on the Meteosat Third Generation-Imager will provide a new capability for European meteorological satellites. The Lightning Imager provides the continuous monitoring of more than 80% of Earth’s disc for detecting lightning discharges taking place either between clouds or from cloud and ground.
