In this video, meet Björn Frommknecht, Mission Manager of ESA's upcoming EarthCARE satellite.
EarthCARE (Cloud, Aerosol and Radiation Explorer) is expected to be launched next year, and is part of ESA's Earth Explorer series.
The mission is a joint venture between ESA and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), and will help our understanding of the role clouds and aerosols play in reflecting solar incident radiation back into space and how they can trap infrared radiation emitted from Earth's surface.
In the interview, Björn describes the goals of EarthCARE and who will use the data. He also describes what the mission is expected to accomplish, such as profiling clouds for the first time from space, and helping to improve the accuracy of climate models.
