EarthCARE, the Earth Cloud Aerosol and Radiation Explorer, satellite carries a set of four instruments to make a range of different measurements that together will shed new light on the role that clouds and aerosols play in regulating Earth’s climate.

In this video, David Spilling, Broadband Radiometer Principal Engineer at Thales Alenia Space, explains the role of Thales Alenia Space as prime contractor for EarthCARE’s Broadband radiometer (BBR) instrument, which measures the radiative fluxes at the top of Earth's atmosphere.
