Land subsidence

Venice has been subject to flooding for hundreds of years. The problem is increasing due to sea level rise and a constant subsidence of the city.

Radar data – like the data to be delivered by the first GMES satellite – are providing the means to continuously monitor ground movement with an accuracy of a few millimetres per year.
