The island of Cyprus (centre), situated in the extreme eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea and its neighbouring countries: Turkey (north), Syria (west) and Lebanon (southwest)) can be observed in this Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) image. One of the world’s oldest cities, Nicosia, can be seen in the centre of Cyprus, as well as the other major cities on the island (light grey areas).
