Internal waves southwest of Hainan Island

Internal waves southwest of Hainan Island, as seen by Envisat's Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) sensor in an image acquired 8 June 2004. Internal wave parameters - amplitude, wavelength, direction, propagation velocity - can be retrieved from ASAR. Internal wave parameters obtained from satellites are being assimilated into numerical models of internal wave propagation in the South China Sea.
