Completed Herschel mirror 'blank'

Shaped Herschel mirror 'blank', sintered from 12 separate SiC petals. The photo was taken in February 2004, prior to machining, which was done to remove the internal stiffeners, used to provide mechanical stability during manufacture, and reduce the shell thickness to 2.5 mm.
