East-west component of the deformation following the Türkiye and Syria earthquakes of 6 February 2023 measured using Copernicus Sentinel-2 data. Sub-pixel optical correlation was applied on images of the acquired on 25 January 2023 (pre-event) and 9 February 9 2023 (post-event). The principle of this method consists in detecting the same arrangements of pixels in the image in the Earth observation data acquired before and after the earthquake and in measuring the horizontal displacements (east-west, north-south) between the two positions.
The GDM-OPT-ETQ service of ForM@Ter 1 was applied on several Sentinel-2 tiles to cover the extent of the affected area; the massive calculation has been performed on the GEP / Geohazards Exploitation Platform by CNRS/EOST and ESA/SAT. Displacements up to 3 m in the East-West component and 5 m in the North-South component are identified. The geographic extent of this image is approximately 250 km wide.
