Aquaporin proteins

Aquaporins are the proteins that make up the membrane in the Aquamembrane-3 experiment ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen is carrying out on his Huginn mission. The proteins, found in both plants and kidneys, allow only water to pass through while filtering out other ions and other particles. The experiment will prepare for the fully operational prototype, that would be able to deliver clean water to both space and Earth.
