Go to topicBetween 28 and 30 November, Liverpool hosted a series of events to mark its recently awarded status as UN's very first accelerator city for climate action, giving ESA the opportunity to showcase how satellites advance understanding of the global climate system and empowering sustainable urban development.
This photo features a model of ESA’s Earth Explorer CryoSat mission, which is dedicated to measuring the thickness of polar sea ice and monitoring changes in the ice sheets that blanket Greenland and Antarctica. Its main payload is a SAR Interferometric Radar Altimeter, which is designed for ice, measuring changes at the margins of vast ice sheets and floating ice in polar oceans.
