Envisat captures Mount Paektu, the highest mountain in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) that forms part of a national border between North Korea and the People’s Republic of China.
At 2,744 m, Mount Paektu is the highest mountain of the Changbai mountain range to the north and Baekdudaegan mountain range to the south. The dark blue spot in the upper left hand corner of the image is Heaven Lake – one of the highest crater lakes in the world.
Image acquired by the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) instrument aboard ESA’s Envisat on 30 October 2007.
