CryoSat-2 track across previously uncharted central Antarctica

The data shown comes from part of Antarctica that has never before been mapped by satellite. CryoSat-2's orbit, which reaches latitudes of 88°, takes it closer to the poles than any earlier observation mission. The large white circle in the image indicates where earlier coverage was missing.
