1857: On 10 September 1857, James Edward Keeler was born.

Keeler was an American astronomer. He verified Maxwell's prediction that Saturn's ring system is not solid, but is a vast swarm of tiny particles. He carried out important spectroscopic work on 120 000 nebulae. With George E. Hale, he co-founded the Astrophysical Journal in 1895.
