This wide-swath radar image (400km wide) centred over Lake Tana, located on the north central plateau of Amhara, in the country of Ethiopia. It is the largest lake of Ethiopia and it forms the main reservoir for the Blue Nile. The Blue Nile issues from the lake's southeast corner, flows south over a lava dam to create the Tisisat Falls, and then flows northwest to merge with the White Nile and form the mighty Nile. To the northeast of the lake is the Simen Mountains national park.
The image is made of three ASAR images acquired on different dates and assigning a colour ( RGB ) to each date ( Red : 3 September 2003, Green : 27 November 2003, Blue : 4 March 2004).
