ESA is back at Gamescom, ready to meet games fans and take partnerships in the video games industry to the next level.

This August, Cologne in Germany is the place to be for the global video games industry as the city once again hosts Gamescom 2023, the world’s largest gaming event. ESA will be there, too, right in the thick of all the excitement, with a stand in Hall 10.2 of the Koelnmesse congress centre.

The ESA stand, known as the ESA Zone, will be a hive of activity – a place to showcase the Agency’s activities and ESA careers, as well as providing a meeting point for game publishers and developers who want to link up with ESA’s Branding and Partnerships Office.

Games fans who drop by the ESA stand will be able to see a selection of ESA’s current video game collaborations on the digital screens – they might even get a chance to pick up some space-related freebies. ESA’s presence at Gamescom is aimed at attracting young talents and this year we have invited STEM and tech advocate and speaker Mabel Ochebiri to join us at the ESA Zone.

Partnerships within the video games industry give ESA a fantastic opportunity to share Europe’s space ambitions with a huge audience. Video games make up the world’s largest entertainment sector, with experts estimating that there will be around three billion gamers active globally by 2023.

Last year, Gamescom drew more than a quarter of a million visitors. The Opening Night Live event was also watched online by more than 12 million game fans, who also saw ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti deliver a message to Gamescom from space. This year, Samantha will be at the official opening of Gamescom 2023 in person. She will return the Gamescom flag that travelled with her to the International Space Station, in the presence of German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck.

Gamescom 2023 promises to be the biggest Gamescom yet, not least because it will feature the launch of some blockbuster titles long anticipated by fans.
