Display the six other bands the same way. For better results, try to get the peaks of the Output Histograms of all bands in about the same range.

These greyscale images already give some information about the land cover classes (urban area, agriculture, roads etc.) in and around Córdoba. We can combine three bands into a colour composite to get clearer information.

First we will create a true colour composite of the Landsat data set. This means that the colours we will see on the image are what we see in real life

Select View-New RGB View.

For LEOWorks3 Use Image-Combine from.[Red Green Blue].

Select band 3 (the red band) for the red colour of the screen, band 2 (green band) for the green, and band 1 (blue band) for the blue. This gives the true colour composite of Córdoba and the surrounding area.

Save this colour composite as 2009_Cordoba_321 in a folder on your computer.

Inspect this image.

1. Are the differences between the city and its surroundings visible?

2. Can you distinguish between forest and cropland? Use the Córdoba/Argentina image in Google Earth for comparison.

3. Based on this first inspection of the area, how many land cover classes (e.g. urban area, rural area, soil without vegetation, vegetated area, roads, etc.) are you able to distinguish?

4. What is the geographical position of the city centre (latitude and longitude)?

5. How big is the city?

Go to the Measure Tool.

6. Measure the length in north-west and south-east directions. Measure the surface of the city by drawing a rough polygon along the city boundaries.
